What are the greatest challenges to women's and young people's health and rights?

One of the biggest challenges is the lack of women in decision-making roles. Men alone are not able to make policy and generate sustainable positive change for women; it is not appropriate, and it is not acceptable. Governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations need to ensure women's participation at all levels. Women also need to work together to support and empower each other.

What actions are you taking to make the world safer and healthier for women and young people?

I am fortunate to be a woman from a country where the rights of women are recognized far more than in other parts of the world. But, I refuse to accept any form of gender discrimination in any aspect of my own life, or in my country.

I work in the field of sexual health, with the aim of empowering other women with the knowledge and inner self-acceptance to stand strong against gender-based inequalities. Particular groups of women in Australia are more at risk than others, and I believe that all women need to work together to reduce the barriers these groups face. I am currently working in Southeast Asia for twelve months in the area of HIV and refugees, which I hope will assist positive change for women.

What are your dreams for yourself and for the world's youth?

I would love for everyone in the world, regardless of gender, sex, religion, sexuality, age, socioeconomic status, physical ability or ethnicity to respect and love each other, without judgment, discrimination or persecution.
