Across the African continent, organizations and individuals are coming together to advance a progressive agenda for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Their vision and their priorities are shaped by the knowledge and experience gleaned from years of local activism and community work, and their demands are reinforced by a range of global agreements on women's and young people's health and rights. Building a united front that consolidates skills, resources, expertise, and energy, these networks are working toward far-reaching change at the regional level. And by uniting to discuss common goals and tackle common challenges, they are also gaining valuable insight into how to effect positive change at the local level. IWHC supports two such networks with representation across the African continent, AMANITARE (the African Partnership for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Women and Girls), and AFSHR (the African Federation for Sexual Health and Rights). We also provide support to a select group of organizations working on the ground in Nigeria and Cameroun, and are part of a collaborative project on gender and advocacy in Mozambique. Recognizing the value of bringing colleagues together across borders, IWHC sponsors frequent collaborations between organizations and individuals working on similar issues in different countries. |
