Letter to the Editor

Re “U.N. Agency Denies Inflating Cases of H.I.V. Deliberately” (news article, Nov. 21):

To the Editor:

Debate on the revised H.I.V./AIDS estimates is pointless. The pandemic and number of new infections are still horrific. We must make better progress on prevention and treatment for all, especially women and young people, who are increasingly vulnerable.

We should all be working to more effectively allocate American AIDS funds to support global efforts to end child marriage, provide comprehensive sexuality education and invest in female-initiated prevention measures, like microbicides.
