ACROSS THE REGION

Enlace Continental de Mujeres Indígenas de las Américas–Región Sudamérica
(Continental Network of Indigenous Women of the Americas South America)

Created in 1993, Enlace is a network of indigenous women from 26 organizations and 19 countries. The network unites activists across the region and highlights indigenous women’s concerns at national and international levels. In 2006, Enlace organized a workshop on sexual health for 13 female indigenous leaders from seven South American countries. The workshop participants created a guide to the state of indigenous women’s sexual and reproductive health in the region.

In 2008, the First International Indigenous Women’s Forum will be held in Lima, Peru, with the anticipated participation of 150 women. With IWHC’s support, Enlace has organized panels on sexual and reproductive health and HIV prevention and will encourage dialogue between the indigenous rights and the feminist movement.
