Consorcio Latinoamericano Contra el Aborto Inseguro-CLACAI |
|
(Latin American Consortium against Unsafe Abortion)
Currently composed of 26 organizations and a group of independent professionals from ten Latin American countries, CLACAI connects the many disparate groups working to prevent unsafe abortions such as health care providers, researchers, and advocates.
CLACAI’s aims to reduce unsafe abortion in the region and simultaneously works to develop strategies for introducing medical abortions. CLACAI is positioning its network as a clearinghouse for information on issues related to abortion, specifically technologies available for abortion and medical abortions. CLACAI plans to make this information library available in hard copy and electronically and will create an electronic space for real-time dialogues and exchanges of information among the many activists in the region.
CLACAI members first came together informally at a major meeting on medical abortion in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2004. IWHC made its first grant to CLACAI in 2007.
