Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir, Córdoba (CDD-Córdoba) Print

(Catholics for the Right to Decide, Córdoba)

Founded in 1993, CDD-Córdoba works locally, nationally in Argentina, and regionally to reconcile widely-held Catholic views with the need to expand access to contraception and safe abortion, recognize sexual diversity and women’s human rights, and stop violence against women.  In Argentina, abortion is a crime except in few circumstances.  IWHC supported several of CDD-Córdoba’s projects from 2003 to 2010.

Projects

Since 2005, CDD-Cordoba has been a strong participant and leader of the Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe, and Free Abortion. The highly-publicized Campaign received the support of national celebrities, including artists and politicians, who spoke out in favor of legal and safe abortion in Argentina. With IWHC’s support, CDD-Cordoba has broadened the base of support for legal reform among health care providers and continue to publicize this campaign with public events and other media initiatives.

Along with other feminist organizations, in December 2008 the Campaign organized the First Latin American Festival for Women’s Right to Life (don't let the name fool you- the title is a play on words and the conference advocated for WOMEN's right to life and choice!) in the prestigious Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires. More than 2,000 people attended the event, which saw the participation famous musicians, actors, and feminist leaders from all the Latin America Region.
