Summary: In February 2004 IWHC, in cooperation with the Youth Coalition, convened "A Dialogue with Young Leaders: Building Capacity and Fostering Participation," a meeting of 15 young advocates for sexual and reproductive rights from around the world. The meeting's goals were to inform IWHC and its colleagues about critical needs, opportunities, and better practices to strengthen the role of young people in health and rights advocacy and programs (especially those oriented to youth); and to provide a forum for a diverse group of young advocates to share strategies, experiences, and resources. Following three days of discussion and debate on a range of issues in sexual and reproductive health confronting young people worldwide, participants generated recommendations on how to foster meaningful youth participation and build young people's capacity in organizations serving young people, in organizations and networks led by youth, and among global actors in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. The report provides an overview of the meeting's origins and agenda, a summary of the key issues we discussed, the text of two panel presentations, a synthesis of our various recommendations, and an evaluation summary (33 pages).
