"My Father Didn't Think This Way": Nigerian Boys Contemplate Gender Equality
Summary: By Françoise Girard (Quality/Calidad/Qualité No. 14, July 2003, Population Council). Conscientizing Male Adolescents (CMA) was founded in 1995 by Nigerian journalist, scholar, and political activist Eddie Madunagu with the intention of raising awareness of gender inequalities among adolescent males in Nigeria. This case study examines how CMA has developed in response to the various institutional challenges it has confronted over the years, and reflects on the lessons learned. It also includes a collection of testimonials from participants, facilitators, parents, and young women who participate in the nearby Girls' Power Initiative (GPI) program (34 pages).
