Women and children are citizens in any given community, yet they are subject to being subservient to men and are usually grossly ignored health-wise and otherwise. Women around me are forced into sex and keeping unwanted pregnancies which result, and are often denied access to reproductive health in general. This invariably results in massive rates of mortality from illegal abortions and maternal mortality. There is also a high incidence of HIV from cases of females forced to have unwanted sex. |

It's a challenge for women to have their rights respected and to have their decisions taken into consideration. Women's rights are only respected after a battle. Women are fighting daily for the recognition of their rights as citizens as a given, not a favor. This is just one of the many types of sexism that women face. |
