Throughout the 1990s and into this decade, a number of international conferences held under the auspices of the United Nations drew attention to the needs of women and adolescents, with a particular focus on their sexual and reproductive health and rights. Recognizing the growing strength and capacity of the international women’s movement, IWHC played a leadership role in mobilizing women and young people for participation in these conferences. This section includes information about individual conferences, including links to the outcome documents in all official UN languages. more>>

Adopted at a UN Summit in 2000, the MDGs have become the UN’s accepted framework for measuring progress on many of the same issues addressed by the sector-specific conferences of the 1990s, including ICPD. This section includes information about how the MDGs grew out of agreements made at Cairo, and how IWHC is working to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights remain a priority within the MDG framework. more>>

Collaborations with UN and other international agencies. IWHC collaborates frequently with World Health Organization, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the World Bank to ensure that girls’ and women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights remain central to population and health policies, and to help these agencies support full implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action at the country level. more>>
