Susan Wood to Become Interim CEO of the International Women's Health Coalition
The Board of Directors of the International Women's Health Coalition (IWHC) announced today that Susan Wood has been appointed interim CEO to manage the organization until a new head for IWHC is named. Adrienne Germain, IWHC's former president, stepped back from day-to-day operations on June 21 to assume the position of President Emerita and serve as a senior advisor on policy and advocacy activities. Ms. Wood is a highly respected consultant to nongovernmental organizations and foundations on sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and women's rights. She was a member of IWHC's staff from 1992 to 1999, serving as Senior Program Officer for Latin America for five years and then as Program Director for two years, providing leadership and management for all of IWHC regional programs in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Wood was also the Ford Foundation's Program Officer for sexuality and reproductive health and rights in Vietnam, overseeing the Foundation's grant-making program in that country and Thailand for five years. IWHC Board Chair Brian Brink said of her appointment, "We are pleased and consider ourselves fortunate that Susan Wood will be serving as Interim CEO during the transition period. Susan is one the most knowledgeable people in the field and has gained the respect of our colleagues in the field, as well as our foundation supporters, through her 30 years of work as a program director, evaluator, strategic planner, and funder. Plus, having managed regional programs at IWHC, Susan brings hands-on experience with the organization's staff, partners, and mission. The Board is confident that Susan Wood and IWHC's committed staff will not miss a beat during this transition period and keep us moving forward as we seek a new permanent head for the organization."
